Where I'm Coming From

Planning:  Should I Consider Long-Term Care Insurance?

At least 70% of people over age 65 will require some type of long-term care services during their lives. Long-term care insurance is designed to help cover expenses associated with assistance needed in performing activities for daily living. These expenses may be incurred either in your home (through a qualifying home-health agency) or in a skilled nursing facility. Many of these expenses are not covered by regular health insurance or Medicare.

There are several important issues to consider in regard to the need for long-term care in the future:

  • People are living longer due to advances in medicine, healthcare and living healthier lifestyles.
  • As medical costs rise, so does the cost of long-term care.
  • Family demographics have changed.  The need for a third party to assist with long-term care is probable when families are spread across the country.
  • The need for long-term care may be experienced at any age due to chronic illnesses or accidents.

Considering your options early while in good health can help protect and preserve your assets for the future.  Please contact our office if you have questions about this information or would like to discuss how we assist with financial planning for asset protection.
